How to Make Pine Cone Bird Feeders

If you love birds, one way to attract them to your yard is by providing them with a source of food. A great way to do this is by making bird feeders out of pine cones. Not only is it an easy and fun activity for kids and adults alike, but it also provides a natural and eco-friendly alternative to store-bought feeders.

Materials needed:

  • Pine cones
  • Peanut butter
  • Birdseed
  • Twine or string
  • A spreader or knife
  • Bowl

Step-by-step Guide:

Step 1: Collect Pine Cones

The first step is to collect pine cones. You can either buy them at a craft store or find them in your backyard or local park. Make sure they are dry and free of any sap or insects.

Step 2: Prepare the Peanut Butter Mixture

In a bowl, mix together peanut butter and birdseed. The ratio should be approximately 1:1, depending on how much you want to make. You can also add other ingredients such as oats, chopped nuts, or dried fruit if you wish.

Cut a length of twine or string and tie it around the top of the pine cone. This will be used to hang the feeder from a tree branch or hook.

  • Place the feeder near a window so you can watch the birds up close.
  • Change the peanut butter mixture every few days to prevent spoilage.
